About
Your Child's Immunization Schedule
As per the American Academy of
Pediatrics (AAP) & the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP)
recommendations (see 2012 Immunization Schedule), we at Island Coast Pediatrics
have revamped our schedule for immunizations. Some vaccines are moved to
a different schedule while other combination vaccines are given in lieu
of 2 or 3 vaccines given individually. Also, new vaccines are added as
they are recommended by the AAP.
The new vaccines are as follows:
Hepatitis A (series of 2
beginning at age 1 year old)
Rotavirus
Vaccine (series of 3 given at 2, 4, and 6 months of age)
Human
Papillomavirus Vaccine (series of 3 for children of age 12 years old
and above)
Meningococcal Vaccine (a single
dose beginning at age 11 years old and a
booster dose around 16 to 18 years old)
Also, new recommendations of booster
vaccines:
Booster vaccine for
Varicella/Chickenpox (a single booster dose at 4 years old
or older)
Booster vaccine for Pertussis
given thru Tdap (at 17 years old or older)
Our immunization
schedule (as in the AAP recommened schedule) serves as a guide and
remains to be flexible and subject to change depending on your child's age,
your child's past immunization history and your child's clinical status at the
time of your visit. For more information, feel free to ask any questions
during your vist at our office.
